Woman On Disability Successfully Files Bankruptcy After Social Security Mistake

A 40-year-old woman from Middleburg Heights was on disability when she received a large check from the Social Security Administration. Because she was unable to work, she lived off of the check and eventually spent it in its entirety. Some time later, the Social Security Administration realized they had sent her $10,000 too much and asked for the full sum back. Unable to abide by their demands and with ever-growing financial burdens, she asked the Cleveland bankruptcy attorneys at Luftman, Heck & Associates for assistance.

Unfortunately, the Social Security Administration stopped all of her future income until they received the money and their mistake was fixed. The disability check was her only source of income. Determined to get this client’s financial status back on track, the experienced attorneys with LHA devised a strong plan. We successfully filed bankruptcy, erasing her debt. Once this was completed she was able to receive her Social Security benefits once again. To the relief of our client, she did not have to pay back the $10,000.
